S Jaishankar urges military to be prepared for rapidly evolving geopolitical threats

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday urged the military to adapt to rapidly evolving geopolitical threats and opportunities, emphasising the importance of technological advancements and lessons from ongoing global conflicts in shaping India’s strategic posture.
Delivering his address on the theme of ‘Evolving Geopolitical Landscape and Opportunities for the Indian Armed Forces’ during the second phase of the Army Commanders’ Conference in Delhi, he underscored the global and geopolitical dynamics that have impacted India.
The minister highlighted the country’s expectations from the military and the preparedness required to address the contradictions and challenges of the current world order.
The second phase of the conference took place on October 28 and October 29 in Delhi, where the Army’s senior leadership discussed critical strategic issues affecting both border security and other parts of the country.
In a post on X, Jaishankar wrote, “Pleased to address the Army Commanders Conference in Delhi today. Discussed the intricacies of current geopolitics, as well as its challenges, possibilities and opportunities. Urged that a more ‘whole of the Government’ approach is needed to effectively advance national security”.
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan also addressed the gathering and talked about the recent success of the Joint Commanders’ Conference in Lucknow. Reviewing the current security situation, General Chauhan stressed the importance of jointness and the roadmap for enhanced integration across domains, which is critical for future warfare and effective operations.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi addressed the gathering and discussed the rapidly shifting dynamics in geopolitics, technology, and tactics. Admiral Tripathi emphasised the need for the Armed Forces to remain proactive and adaptable to these changes, particularly within the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific regions.
The conference took place at a time when troop disengagement at the two friction points at Demchok and Depsang Plains in eastern Ladakh was in its “final stages”, following an agreement between India and China.
