DIMENSIONS:

Total weight: approx. 8 lbs.
DESCRIPTION:
Rare PAIR of original railroad model plates from a GENERAL ELECTRIC U23C diesel electric locomotive.
Heavy acid etched stainless steel with model number and borders in relief. Black paint background. All original.
Only 53 General Electric U23C were produced for 4 US railroads: AT&SF (20 units), CB&Q (9 units), LS&I (5 units) and Penn Central (19 units).
Only the 9 CB&Q units (numbered 460-468, becoming Burlington Northern 5200-5208 in 1970) bore these model plates, one on either side of the locomotive (Google images).
Circa 1968 (pre Burlington Northern).
CONDITION:
Both plates are in very good original condition. No damages and no significant wear. No restorations.
No bends, breaks, cracks, dents, creases. No significant scratches or rubs. No corrosion or significant oxidation.
No signs of abuse.
Untouched original patina as found. No evidence of polishing. I merely wiped these off with a damp cloth before photographing them.
Typical age related loss to most of the black paint. There is some superficial red oxidation on back of one plate where it was in contact with ferrous metal. Light wear around the mounting holes as expected. Some typical, light, storage related wear: scattered superficial scratches. Consult photos. None of this is significant or conspicuous.
These display beautifully.
