Description
Authentic, circa early 1930s all-original, hand painted heavy steel, double-sided Pennsylvania Railroad Station Sign from the 30th St. Station in Philadelphia, with destinations to Wilmington, Baltimore and Washington DC. It is not marked PRR, but the colors are the same as the PRR logo. There is a number 14 painted on the metal mounting tab. Close inspection reveals that the metal sign panel was reused and repainted with different destinations, which was done during original use, and there are faint suggestions of painted over lettering in the red field and older red paint around the edges. This is not suspect, rather it actually adds to the authenticity, and this is guaranteed to be an original PRR paint job with no modern repainting or repairs. For example, If this was made around 1930, it may have been repainted in 1935. Again, there is no new paint at all.One side is in better condition than the other, but the lesser of the two is still good, it just has some active flaking. There is normal surface rust on the exposed metal. This is heavy, stiff and likely made if steel.
Thanks to Dave for identifying the original location and age of the sign.
Measures about 30" long x 12-1/4" plus the 3" tab. Weighs about 12 pounds.
