42" Antique Solid Wood  Victorian Newel Post
Charming, antique,  newel post salvaged from an old home in Northeastern  PA.  It's made of solid Douglas Fir and is painted gray.  It has a straight shaft or body with chamfered edges and a stepped,  pointed cap or finial.
This post was positioned at the bottom of the stair case  so it has a cutout at its base for where the first step was located.  There is also a tiny break and some nail holes at the top, on one side  where the rail attached. The break and nail holes could be filled with  wood putty and the portion that has the cut out could either be cut off  (reducing the height to 33") or filled with wood to keep the current 42"  H or even make it taller

Otherwise, the post is in great shape. It has the typical nicks, scrapes, and scratches which should be  expected from 100+ year old, architectural parts. However, there are no serious breaks or cracks,  rot, or wrap. All  it needs is a good sanding and a fresh coat of  paint. It's strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of  service!
